Consultations

Incident Investigations, including Harassment

Our consultants are trained to investigate incidents including critical injuries, near misses, and violence and harassment. Our impartiality assists employers to identify causes of incidents in an effort to identify contributing and underlying factors. Our reports include a sequence of events, observations, conclusions, and recommendations. Our focus is on prevention of further incidents, and on improving the occupational health and safety management system within the organization.

Health & Safety Audits

In her studies, Louise Caicco Tett focused on Occupational Health and Safety Management Systems. She is familiar with CSA-Z100, Z-10, ILO-OSH-2001, ISO-19011, and Workwell. Louise has conducted industrial and construction project audits over five years for a large Renewable Energy company in North and South America, using their comprehensive internal audit tool. Ms. Tett acted as a lead  auditor on one of those audits and continues to pursue lead auditor roles. In June 2018, Ms. Tett will attend an ISO-45001 5-day lead auditor training program.

Over the last twenty years, Health & Safety Professionals has successfully prepared several clients for Workplace Safety and Insurance Board’s Workwell Audit. This included policy and procedure writing, training, implementation, and goal setting for senior management. HSPI adapted and carried out Workwell audit for an American construction project in Ontario.

Health & Safety Professionals Inc. authored, designed and delivered five one-day Internal Auditor Training courses for an Ontario Ministry. The training was based on CSA’s Z-1000 audit tool and CAN/CSA-ISO 19011:12.

JHSC Committees & Representatives

Health & Safety Professionals Inc. (HSPI) provides consultation and training for Joint Health and Safety Committees (JHSC). They work closely with companies in developing schedules, inspection and reporting forms, and documentation policies regarding JHSCs. HSPI is a MOL approved provider of Basic Certification Training Part I and Part II under the 2015 Standards. See  TRAINING for a full listing of the courses offered. If you don’t see one that fits the significant hazard in your workplaces, HSPI may be able to develop a course to suit individual company needs.

Office Ergonomic Assessments

Health & Safety Professionals Inc. (HSPI) conducts office ergonomic assessments. An RN will assess the work area, and provide a written report and suggestions on how to improve the area. The assessment includes a follow up after implementation has occurred to observe and comment on any further requirements.

Policy and Procedure Manuals

Health & Safety Professionals Inc (HSPI) has extensive experience in developing health and safety policies and procedures. We believe all workplaces to be unique, and as such, we develop policies that are workplace specific and take into consideration the distinctive tasks, processes, and dynamics that exist. A thorough assessment of applicable legislation is conducted. Following the review, HSPI works with the company to ensure that policies are written to meet legislative requirements while also being reasonable to implement. HSPI also reviews and revises standard operating procedures, and trains supervisors and workers on the revised policies and procedures.

Workplace Hazard Assessments

Health & Safety Professionals Inc. (HSPI) works closely with companies in developing workplace hazard assessments. HSPI reviews the workplace using a risk assessment methodology. As there are many tools available, HSPI works with the employer to utilize a tool that fits the workplace. A thorough hazard identification process is carried out that takes into consideration the people, equipment, material, environment, and processes in the workplace. Once all relevant hazards have been identified, HSPI provides commentary, recommendations, strategies, and options that eliminate, prevent, minimize, or control hazards while meeting employer’s operational requirements.

Standard Operating Procedures

Standard Operating Procedures (SOP) are required when there is a high risk of injury or illness to workers. HSPI, in consultation with operators, JHSCs, Health and Safety Representatives, and managers, assists in the writing of SOPs. HSPI will assist in developing procedures and forms that suit the workplace.
